Rogue Company | Skyfell

Concepts done for the Rogue Company Skyfell map which takes place on the top of a skyscraper in Dubai. The skyscraper was funded by an ultra-rich CEO known as “The Collector” who uses her wealth to acquire artifacts from the black markets of the world.

I was given a lot of freedom by the map Lead and Art Director to drive the visual themes of this map. The layout had two interior spaces connected by an exterior rooftop terrace/ garden and I pitched an idea to give one of the interiors a fire theme and the other a water theme. I focused my concept time on the “fire” building while other artists developed the “water” building. The environment team (Dan Brown https://www.artstation.com/deebee Matt Demaray https://www.artstation.com/goofslapper Mick Jundt https://www.artstation.com/awfulwaffles Chris Chowell https://chowell.artstation.com/ Xiaopeng Shen https://www.artstation.com/xiaopengshen and Danny O’Hailey https://dannyohailey.com/) did a great job realizing these contrasts between fire and water, warm and cool in the final art assets.

We knew that the “fire” building should be some kind of gallery to show off the Collector’s artifacts. The enormous columns in the Level Designer’s blockout reminded me of ancient Mesopotamian architecture, and since we were in the Middle East I decided to design the space as a modern take on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, with stair stepping forms and hanging plants. I saw the opportunity to include some Smite easter eggs in the map by incorporating realistic versions of Smite gods like Horus and Set, which would fit well into a gallery of ancient artifacts. I carried the fire theme throughout the interior, from the modern fireplace and earth tones of the gallery to the red graphic accents of the service areas.

I designed this as a modern architectural version of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I also gave it a fire theme, in contrast with the water theme of the other side of the map.

The service hallways were designed to look functional but stylish. The red accents continued the fire theme of the building.
